Aniscia McAdams, Founder of Monarch Consulting
I grew up in Portland OR, born from a Boston native mother, and a father whose roots are deeply embedded in Spokane Washington. I attended Portland Public Schools from elementary through high school. After graduating from Benson High School, I went to Portland Community College not knowing what to settle on as a major; but knew I wanted to further my education. While taking my prerequisites, I had to fulfill a work study obligation for financial aid. Through this, I was assigned an after school program at an elementary school, tutoring students. This fun job sparked the teaching light in me and I was sold on becoming a classroom teacher. I finished up my Master of Arts in Education, at Portland State University, and began my teaching career with Portland Public Schools, the same year.
After teaching for PPS, I took a breather and settled into motherhood. I then returned to teaching in the capacity of guest teaching for Vancouver School District; so as to allow for flexibility for my growing family.
Throughout my years in teaching I have always had a passion for curriculum development and practicing culturally responsive instruction, but felt restricted as a public school teacher. Starting my own Education Consulting business allows me to do what I ultimately saw myself doing; teaching the students, by teaching the teachers.
My ability to connect with people allows me to not only use my lense of compassion and empathy, but also build connections and foster relationships that become life long. Human connection is the first step to any form of learning.
Being a first generation college graduate in my family, and a voracious learner, I knew I was chosen to do the heartfelt work of teaching. I believe our obligation to those that come after us is, to share the wealth of knowledge that we carry.
